Modular platforms for Archifest 2019
1Project Information
A systemic module comprising of local angsana and birch plywood.
209 timber modules were made for Archifest 2019, an annual event that celebrates architecture organised by Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA). These timber modules consisted of a birch plywood base paired with local angsana dovetail joints.
To connect the birch and angsana parts together, we used the biscuit joinery method. Crescent holes are made on the opposing parts, where it houses a thin compressed particle wooden ‘biscuit’. This improves the bond and strength of the joint.
Each module featured the ‘male’ and ‘female’ parts of the dovetail joint, allowing us to align and assemble the individual modules together. Module designed together with Iskandar from Super Assembly and Stacey from Plot Room.
